Rodeo Weekend

Little Cowboy "LC" is participating in a winter series rodeo this year. He seems to be doing better than he did in the summer series but, we just need to get him a solid rodeo horse. This series he has competed on a couple different horses and none seem to be working out for him. It's frustrating for him and us. He is always in good spirits even when things don't go his way. Here are just a few of the pictures from this last weekend.

A day in the life of my youngest.

On Sunday we head to the rodeo about 30 minutes from home. Plan on being there all day as it is a youth rodeo and they take all day. Everyone that knows my youngest cowgirl knows that she is a clutz. There are days that I watch her fall down 3 or 4 times while walking. She should have been named Grace.
So, of coarse we get there and my kids and my niece take off to go play. Oldest comes back a little while later and she is dragging the youngest with her. She says that the youngest has ripped her pants.

She somehow caught them on a nail. Doesn't surprise me. Which at this point in her life not a lot surprises me.
So we watch the majority of the rodeo and then here comes the oldest again. Except this time the youngest is following nicely and crying. Again not a surprise. By the time she reaches me the oldest tells me that she has ran into a pipe fencing that was sticking out. It was already black and blue. She is lucky she didn't break her nose.

We ice it and tell her it will be okay. By the time we get home it has started to swell and I image waking up in the morning to find half of her face black and blue and swollen. I think she lucked out cause it was a little swollen and a little more black but, not as bad I as I expected.

A day in her life is never dull on the plus side I won a silent auction at the rodeo. I got cowgirl 5 new long sleeve button downs for cheap. When I showed her I got them for her that made things all better. See she is my girl shopping makes everything better.

Some more of the kids loot...

Here is a couple more pics of some of the stuff the cowpokes got at the awards.

Here is oldest cowgirl sporting the new halter, lead line, and her hat.

Here is little cowboy sporting new halter, leadline, hat, buckle, and his shirt. His goal was to use all the new stuff before the end of the day. He almost accomplished it.

Little cowboy had to ride to be able to use the saddle pad so, we saddled up his horse. He rode for a while then was gracious enough to let his little sister ride. He hesitate letting her ride because he is going to retire his rodeo horse to her for next year. He really need something faster. So, he is trying to talk grandma out of one of her horse ( one that I use to run barrels on). He says he is not ready to ride my mare yet, he has seen her buck and is worried he is going to get bucked off. So you have to excuse her attire we haven't found her any hand-me down boots yet. Nana bought her these mud boots and they are her new favorite shoes. (They are even on the wrong feet.)

Sorry Dad I stole your picture. If anyone has any little girls boots in size 9 we are taking donations.

Buckles, we now have buckles.

The awards banquet for the rodeo circuit the two oldest cowpoke participated in was tonight. Instead of receiving monetary awards after each rodeo the kids get tack and such at the end of the season. As long as they participate in 3 rodeos and the finals they get the loot of goodies. In my opinion this is way better for the kids that are just starting out.

All my little cowboy wanted out of the whole banquet was a dinner plate belt buckle( you know the ones you could turn over and are as big as a dinner plate.)Well guess what one of his awards was for.

The the oldest cowgirl didn't care at all what she got. She was just excited to get anything. Well guess what she got a buckle too.

They also got a jacket, t-shirt, hat, feed bucket, bucket strap, brushes, comb, dewormer, saddle blanket, bronc halter, and some other odds and ends. Wow, they sure did get a lot of loot for just having fun every Friday night all summer long.

Busy Hectic Life

Okay I know I have been gone for a little while, okay a long while. But to my defense. I have had a horse show, a county fair, and a family emergency.

To start, the horse show was for the cowpoke kids and 4H. Both of my kiddos did awesome. My oldest cowgirl broke out in a lope. Which is truly amazing considering we barely trot. The little cowboy did awesome and Cowboy took one of our horses and did great.

Little Cowboy had a pig to show at our local county fair and he received a red ribbon for that. Not bad for his first time with a pig. The fair was great but, hectic. We spend the good part of 4 days at the fair barn.

Then this last weekend we thought we would get a relaxing weekend but, didn't happen. I get a call on Friday afternoon that my dad has passed out and had a seizure at work. He is rushed to ER and the run all the fun test on him and find a mass in the soft tissue of his brain. He ended up having to have surgery on Sunday and now we get to patiently ( mind you I have no patience) wait for his pathlogey reports to find out what the mass is. So I have spend the last several days at the hospital.

Mind you my house looks like a bomb went off and I am pretty sure my horses and dogs have forgot who I am.

Please pray for my dad and that his path reports come back clean and that the surgery is the only thing he is going to have to endure.
Thanks

Muttin Bustin

Okay We are done with the youth rodeos till next summer.  The finals got rained out the night before we left for my grandma's.   So this last weekend there was a "real rodeo"  not to far from home.  So, we decided to go on Saturday night and enter little cowboy in the Muttin Bustin.   Well you can watch the video and see how he did.

He lands in the only mud hole in the whole areana.  The verdict is still out weather he does it again or not.  He thought for sure he had broke his hip.  I assured him he would know it if he broke it.    Of coarse he forgot his change of clothes like I told him to bring so we managed to find a shirt in the truck but,  he still had to wear the mud filled jeans the rest of the night.

Another Rodeo.

Okay I know that I am behind on blogging but, have been busy at home.  Last Friday we had another youth rodeo.  Again a real good time.  This time little cowboy  was going to do barrels, poles, flags, and goats and oldest cowgirl entered in flags, poles, and goats.

Here is little man running down to get off his horse for tying the goats.  Notice the man standing right in my way well, that's  my dad and he better hope he got some good pictures cause all I got was the back side of him.  haha

Next came barrels for him.

The poles pictures didn't come out to good.  So on to the Oldest Cowgirl.  Here first event was goat tying.   This was her first time doing this and she loved it.

Her goat didn't stay tied but she tried really hard.   Next she had poles which was hard to take photos of.  Then there was flags.

She did good in the flags she got 4Th place.  The smile on her face when the announced she got 4th you would have thought she got 1st.

Both the kids did an awesome job at the rodeo and are trying to better there riding ability.   We are very proud of both of them.  We get a weekend off from the rodeo because of the 4th.   It will be a nice break.

Another Rodeo...

Last Friday night  was the second rodeo the cowpokes have been to.    Of course I started out the evening a little nervous, what else is new.  But this time it was because oldest was going to ride.    She had entered to do the flag race.   Which is just run down to the end of the arena where there is a barrel with a bucket on top put your flag in the bucket and run home or in our cause as fast as your little heart desires.   Little cowboy entered in flags, barrels, and poles.

We started out with him do barrels  As you can see he was having a hard time controlling his horse.  The horse who I will call haus because his name actually is cowboy but don't want to get anyone confused  wasn't thinking that they were really competing.  We find out later that the kids are running their horses up and down the hills behind all the trucks and trailer. ( when I say kids I mean cowboy and my neice of course not my cowgirl she is just watching)

By the time cowboy got haus under control they had already broke their pattern so it was a no time.  He went a head and ran him through the rest of the event but on the home stretch his stirrup came undone.    So we got that fixed with out any problems and told him to quit working haus to death or he wouldn't perform for him later.

See in that last picture he was looking down trying to figure out what happened to his stirrup.

Poles event went better he did really well but I had to watch form the concessions stand, I had volunteered to work for an hour.   His flag event went good to but he gets a little cocky and tried to throw the flag on a pole like a dart in the bucket and I know he is going to miss one day.  But it was a clean run.  Not sure what his times were on the events.

When cowgirls age group for flags came up I went down and talked to her for a minute and told her that I just wanted her to try and trout down there put her flag in and trout back.   She agreed and I went back to the stands.  I knew  if I stayed down there she would have freaked out before she went in.   But, guess what she trotted down put her flag in and trotted back just like I asked.  When she was done she rode over close to the stand and she was beaming from ear to ear.  She told me "that wasn't that bad.  Next week I think that I will do more event.   I just don't want to lope but maybe I will gallop"  I didn't want to tell her the difference so I just agreed with her.   My mother in law has the video of her and I still haven't got last weeks video of cowboy so, hopefully I will get those soon.   I will post them as soon as I get them.

Oldest Cowgirl.

Last week at the rodeo she chose to not compete because all though she likes riding horses we like to go slow.  No fast movements and if the horse acts like it is going to do more that walk we are getting off and are done for the evening.  The excuse is usually because her stomach now hurts.  We have never shoved her into riding just maybe pushed a little.  But she did take almost 2 years of riding lessons so it's not as if we threw her on a horse and told her to figure it out.   Anyways  after last weeks rodeo being bored in the stands while her brother, cousin and friends all rode around she changed her mind.    Plus seeing that not all the kids are pushing there horses to run was a big help.  So I made a deal with her.  All she really wanted was for me to haul a horse to the rodeo for her to ride  around on, not compete.  I told her that if she did one event I would haul a horse for her then she could spend the whole evening riding around with friends.  She agreed.  The only problem is what horse.  I didn't  want to saddle and unsaddle little cowboys horse and my just recently broke and not injured mare wouldn't work. Everything else we have is either too young or has a baby by it's side.  Nana and Papa  offered to let her  their  horse, Dandy.     So she practiced twice this last week on him.  The first night didn't go so good she couldn't get in the grove with him.  Then on the second practice she did really well.  Her aunt offered to let cowgirl ride in her saddle.  Cowgirl says mine is too uncomfortable.

So we hauled her and Dandy to the rodeo.  Pictures and how well she did to come as soon as I get the pictures up.

She is the one on the bigger horse.  Papa missed the picture of her actually running but here is proof that she was on the horse at the rodeo.
